Vin Diesel Surprises Fans with Dwayne Johnson Shoutout at 2025 Golden Globes

With this modest but significant act, Vin Diesel seems to be making amends.

The 57-year-old actor made a small but significant reference to his 52-year-old former ‘Fast and Furious’ co-star Dwayne Johnson during the 2025 Golden Globes when he presented the award for Film Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Diesel smiled and said a simple “Hi Dwayne…” to Johnson before presenting the prize.

Following years of headlines exposing their internal conflicts, they finally acknowledged each other. A conflict was first rumoured in 2016 while ‘The Fate of the Furious’ was being filmed. Rumours of a tense relationship between the two performers were stoked by reports that they had argued frequently on filming.

Johnson, popularly known as “The Rock,” appeared to criticize unidentified male co-stars from the franchise in an Instagram post that has since been removed in August 2016. Johnson blasted several of the male performers, calling them “chicken s—” and “candy a—-” for their unprofessional behaviour, while also complimenting his female co-stars and the production team. He made hints that his performance in several situations was impacted by the intense strain.

Diesel denied the rumours and maintained that the two were close despite the public drama. He said that some of the problems had been overblown and went on to say that Johnson was like family to him, even going so far as to call him “Uncle Dwayne” at home.

Johnson’s decision to leave the team in 2021 seemed to be the culmination of the friction. However, Johnson announced his comeback to the ‘Fast and Furious’ series in the summer of 2023, suggesting that the stars had made up. Johnson claimed that he and Diesel had worked out their issues and promised to put the series, its characters, and the fans first in an emotional post.

In an April 2024 interview, even their co-star John Cena offered his thoughts on the feud, comparing it to a conflict between “alphas” and recognizing the difficulties of dealing with two strong, independent personalities.

The two action stars’ reconciliation appears to be further cemented with Diesel’s 2025 Golden Globes shoutout.
