Irene Steals The Spotlight In New Performance Video

Just this week, Irene and Seulgi stunned fans with the follow-up track to their debut EP, ‘Monster’. The tune, titled, ‘Naughty’ garnered a lot of attention for its unique choreography and interesting camera work. But currently, their 2nd episode is also creating quite the storm. 

Titled, ‘Irene’ the song opens with a set of dramatic beats, spilling between the tinkling, fairytale-like notes of a piano. Both the instrumental foundation and the duo’s vocals, warp and distort as the song proceeds. 

While it might sound a tad bit strange to the ear, it certainly strikes a chord with the visuals. The music video takes us back to the same futuristic landscape we witnessed in ‘Naughty,’ except this time, Irene has the spotlight to herself. We see her take a stab at a tricky piece of choreography. Though, as expected, her performance is both graceful and powerful. Once again, Irene proves that she truly earned the title of ‘main dancer’ as a part of ‘Red Velvet’. 

In fact, while we’re on the topic of superb dancers, in a recent interview, Seulgi opened up about just this. When the other half of the duo was asked which female idols she thinks should be highlighted as great dancers, she chose IZ*ONE’s Lee Chae Yeon, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Chungha, and TWICE’s Momo.

Irene also dished out her thoughts on their sub unit and the experience of working together. “It’s been comfortable working with Seulgi because I’ve been with her for so long,” Irene confessed, while Seulgi added, “Because we know each other so well, we really work to be accommodating to each other. When we do interviews, we may not be on one wavelength, but it’s okay because we’re well aware that we each like and don’t like different things.”

Well, the girls have given us two juicy episodes and we can only predict that the third one will focus solely on Seulgi. But until it comes out, we’ll just have to wait and see.
