Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep Reunite at The 2024 Golden Globes!

Guess who’s back together? Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, the dynamic mother-daughter duo from the iconic ‘Mamma Mia!’ films, had a heartwarming reunion on the red carpet ahead of the 81st annual Golden Globes. The 74-year-old Streep, spotting 38-year-old Seyfried posing for photographers, decided to surprise her mid-photo with a friendly hello.

The reunion was nothing short of adorable, with Seyfried squealing in delight as Streep bestowed a quick kiss on her on-screen daughter’s head before gracefully making her exit. Despite the excitement, Seyfried swiftly regained her composure and returned to her duties of posing for snaps in anticipation of the awards show at the Beverly Hilton.

The prospect of a reunion had been teased earlier by Seyfried, who expressed openness to a third instalment of the beloved musical film. Speaking during the Variety and Entertainment Tonight pre-show, she hinted at the possibility, reigniting the hopes of fans who last visited the enchanting Greek island world in 2018’s ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.’

Seyfried’s enthusiasm was echoed by the rest of the cast, as she revealed in 2020, “Every single person in that movie would say yes in a heartbeat because we want to hang out with each other.” The film’s producer, Judy Craymer, added fuel to the fire, stating that there’s meant to be a trilogy and that a third movie was in the “earliest stages.”

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Craymer assured fans that work on the potential third instalment was ongoing. In May, she shared her desire to bring Streep back into the fold, emphasizing that there’s a compelling story to tell and that Streep loved playing Donna.

Streep herself expressed her openness to revisiting Donna, even after the character met her demise in the sequel. “If there’s an idea that excites me, I’m totally there,” said the Oscar winner. She humorously suggested scenarios, saying, “If she could figure out a way to reincarnate Donna, I’m into that. Or it could be like in one of those soap operas where Donna comes back and reveals it was really her twin sister that died.”
