America Ferrera continued her celebration of ‘Barbie’ at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards on 18th February. Billie Eilish presented the 39-year-old actress with the award for movie performance of the year, and Ferrera playfully mentioned that her sole reason for attending was to befriend the ‘What Was I Made For?’ singer.
Expressing gratitude to those who voted for her and for ‘Barbie’, Ferrera humorously acknowledged the fans who watched the film multiple times, thanking them for showing up in fabulous pink attire. She took a moment to extend thanks to the film’s director, Greta Gerwig, and star, Margot Robbie, referring to Barbie Land as a representation of the entire human race.
Ferrera described being part of ‘Barbie’ as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” and praised the film as a “bold and inspiring masterpiece.” She emphasized the movie’s message, calling it an invitation for everyone to embrace their true selves. Ferrera highlighted the uniqueness, glory, and perfect humanity in each individual.
Competing in the movie performance of the year category, Ferrera faced nominees including her Barbie co-star Simu Liu, Charles Melton and Natalie Portman from ‘May December’, Danielle Brooks from ‘The Color Purple’, Jacob Elordi from ‘Saltburn’, Melissa McCarthy from ‘The Little Mermaid’ and Viola Davis from ‘Air’.
