‘American Idol’ Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie Have Santa Barbara Fun

In an exclusive post-‘American Idol’ premiere interview with a magazine, chart-topping sensation Katy Perry opened up about the memorable hometown excursion she organised for herself and fellow Idol judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. As the trio embarked on a journey to each of their respective hometowns, Perry had the opportunity to showcase her roots in Santa Barbara, California, providing her colleagues with a glimpse into her cherished memories and experiences.

Reflecting on the unique dynamics of their diverse backgrounds, Perry expressed her delight at Bryan and Richie seamlessly blending into the fabric of Santa Barbara. “The best part of bringing Idol to Santa Barbara was being able to share my roots,” Perry shared in an email with the magazine.

She reminisced about her humble beginnings, from busking at local farmers markets to reconnecting with her opera teacher at the Music Academy of the West during auditions—an unexpected yet heartwarming reunion.

For Perry, returning to her hometown signifies a departure from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, transforming into a more relaxed and grounded version of herself. Describing her typical routine, she painted a picture of idyllic Sundays filled with leisurely bike rides, grocery shopping, and cherished family brunches—a refreshing contrast to her high-energy stage persona.

During the visit, Perry organised a friendly pickleball match, a beloved pastime shared with her family. With her mother, Mary, by her side, Perry gleefully recounted their victory, reminiscing about their longstanding tradition of Sunday afternoon pickleball sessions. She even shared anecdotes about participating in a charity pickleball tournament, a testament to her commitment to philanthropy through her Firework Foundation.

Amidst her professional endeavours, including wrapping up her Play residency in Las Vegas, Perry took a moment to acknowledge the joy of motherhood, expressing gratitude for the precious moments shared with her daughter, Daisy Dove, to her fiancé, Orlando Bloom. Perry emphasised the significance of being present for everyday moments with her daughter, a sentiment that underscores her journey of personal growth and fulfilment beyond the spotlight.
