Anna Kendrick Isn’t in ‘The Accountant 2’ – Her Absence Explained

Fans wondered why Anna Kendrick, who played Dana Cummings, Christian Wolff’s love interest in the first movie, was not in ‘The Accountant 2’. The 2025 follow-up, which was directed by Gavin O’Connor, carries on the plot but focuses mostly on Christian and his estranged brother Brax (Jon Bernthal).  The majority of the original cast, including J.K. Simmons and Ben Affleck, made a comeback, however, Kendrick’s role was absent.  According to O’Connor, the plot of the sequel was always meant to focus on the two brothers’ friendship as they handled their outstanding problems.

Despite not appearing in the follow-up, Kendrick has been rather busy in 2025. She starred alongside Blake Lively in ‘A Simple Favour’, which will be available on OTT platforms.  In retrospect, Kendrick had previously commended the intricate plot and the thriller’s multi-layered mystery, which she thought were fascinating aspects of the original movie.

Looking ahead, O’Connor has indicated interest in carrying on the story and has already imagined several plotlines, even though a third movie has not been formally confirmed.  He has also hinted that the third instalment would concentrate on the relationship between the two brothers, referring to it as a “buddy picture,” and go deeper into Christian’s need for affection and kinship.

Kendrick might play the same part in the upcoming movie.  O’Connor made a suggestion that Dana might return, and Kendrick is apparently amenable to the notion, saying she would be thrilled to return to the project if it went ahead.
