Anne Hathaway And Nicholas Galitzine’s Film ‘The Idea of You’ Will Close SXSW 2024

Michael Showalter’s highly anticipated film, ‘The Idea of You’, has been selected to close out the prestigious South by Southwest Film & TV Festival this year. Featuring a stellar cast including Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, the film revolves around Solène, a 40-year-old single mother who unexpectedly finds herself entangled in a romantic liaison with the 24-year-old lead singer of August Moon, the world’s hottest boy band.

Showalter’s association with SXSW is longstanding, with several of his projects having debuted or screened at the festival in the past. Notable entries include ‘Hello My Name Is Doris’, which clinched the Audience Award in 2015, and ‘The Big Sick’, which also earned the Audience Award in 2017.

Despite the setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Showalter continues to be a familiar presence at SXSW, having presented episodes from his TV series “Search Party” and initially intending to debut his rom-com ‘The Lovebirds’ in 2020.

In ‘The Idea of You’, Solène’s life takes an unexpected turn when she assumes the role of chaperone for her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival, only to find herself swept off her feet by Hayes, the charismatic musician. However, their budding romance faces challenges due to Hayes’ celebrity status, compelling Solène to navigate the complexities of love in the limelight. 

The ensemble cast also includes Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, Viktor White, Raymond Cham, Jaiden Anthony, and Dakota Adan, with the film adapted from the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee.

Produced by Hathaway, along with Cathy Schulman, Gabrielle Union, Robinne Lee, Eric Hayes, Michael Showalter, and Jordana Mollick, ‘The Idea of You’ is presented by Amazon MGM Studios, promising audiences an enchanting cinematic experience. Claudette Godfrey, VP of Film & TV, expressed enthusiasm for the film, hailing it as a “sexy, unexpected masterpiece” that offers a fresh perspective on love and human connection.

In addition to ‘The Idea of You’, SXSW 2024 will showcase screenings of other highly anticipated films, including the Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt action-comedy ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Road House’ featuring Jake Gyllenhaal.
