Anne Hathaway says 'The Princess Diaries 3' is still very much alive, even as her packed schedule has slowed things down.

While promoting 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' with Meryl Streep, Hathaway shared that work on a third 'The Princess Diaries' is ongoing. She explained that production on 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' unexpectedly took priority, making it difficult to focus on both projects at once.

Even so, Anne Hathaway said her goal is to make 'Princess Diaries 3' next, though she noted the film has not officially been greenlit yet. She made it clear that the team is being careful, especially because expectations are high and they want the sequel to live up to the beloved franchise. Streep also supported that approach, stressing the importance of waiting for the right script.

Anne Hathaway first won over audiences as Mia Thermopolis in 'The Princess Diaries,' based on the books by Meg Cabot. The films followed Mia's transformation from an ordinary teenager to a Genovian royal, alongside her grandmother Clarisse, played by Julie Andrews.

Talk of a third movie has been circulating for years. Late director Garry Marshall had discussed plans for another sequel before his death, and Hathaway later revealed a script existed. In recent years, momentum has grown, especially after filmmaker Adele Lim joined the project.

Hathaway's update comes during one of her busiest years yet, with multiple films arriving in 2026, including projects with Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Ewan McGregor, Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson.

For now, Genovia fans may have to wait a little longer, but Anne Hathaway appears committed to making the royal return happen.
