Antoine Fuqua Set to Helm Feature Documentary on Nelson Mandela

Antoine Fuqua is embarking on a riveting journey as he takes the directorial helm for a feature documentary on Nelson Mandela, titled ‘Troublemaker: The Story Behind the Mandela Tapes,’ as revealed by Variety.

The documentary aims to provide an authentic and definitive portrayal of Mandela, utilizing newly discovered audio interviews with the iconic figure himself. The project, which boasts the provisional title, will delve into the life experiences of Mandela, offering an honest and accurate depiction of the global symbol of justice, hope, and universal human dignity.

Collaborating closely with Mandela’s former cellmate and confidant, Mac Maharaj, Fuqua brings a unique perspective to the film. Maharaj, who spent 12 years alongside Mandela on Robben Island, played a pivotal role in transcribing Mandela’s autobiography while incarcerated. Serving as an executive producer for the documentary, Maharaj’s reflections and insights will contribute to unravelling the forces that shaped Nelson Mandela into the influential figure he became.

The logline promises an exploration of Mandela’s journey from a pioneering activist lawyer turned freedom fighter, imprisoned for 27 years, to the first democratically elected president of South Africa. The documentary will utilize recently discovered audio interviews, revealing the untold story of Mandela’s resilience, compassion and inner strength.
