Are We Getting New Music From Childish Gambino?

Donald Glover, the artist known by his stage name Childish Gambino, seems to be dropping hints about something intriguing. In a 20-second video shared on Instagram right after an unexpected Instagram Live session, shouts of excitement echo in the background against a backdrop of distorted images featuring pillars and what appears to be a fireplace.
What’s more, is that the video is tucked away in a private @ChildishGambino Instagram account. Although the account lacks a verification checkmark, it was previously used to unveil the ‘Swarm EP.’
The visuals themselves are borrowed from the introduction to Glover’s Deep Web tour, which supported his album ‘Because the Internet.’ Interestingly, this tour marks its tenth anniversary on the day the video was posted. This could imply that Glover is gearing up to release tour visuals, reissues, or even unreleased tracks from those sessions.
While an anniversary tour might be less likely, Glover hinted in an interview with Complex that new music under his Childish Gambino alias could emerge “sooner rather than later.”

Glover has been juggling various projects, including the Amazon Prime Video series Swarm, multiple ‘Star Wars’ ventures, taking on the lead role in the reimagining of ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ and confirming his involvement in the upcoming ‘Community’ movie to reprise the character Troy Barnes. On 10th December, an Instagram account, supposedly linked to Childish Gambino, initiated an impromptu Instagram Live stream on the anniversary of the 2013 album ‘Because The Internet.’

The brief 30-second broadcast featured only audio, starting with the words “Can you hear me,” followed by an increasingly distorted voice and an eerie soundscape, with cheers audible in the background. A snippet of the livestream circulated on social media and following it, the account posted the same audio paired with a video showcasing glitching futuristic outlines of pillars and a fireplace. Fans quickly recognized these visuals from the introduction to Childish Gambino’s concerts during his 2014 ‘Deep Web’ tour.

The account went further, posting a teaser of ‘So Profound,’ an unreleased track from the ‘Because The Internet’ sessions, accompanied by an image of Glover donning the trapper hat he wore during that period. Despite the account’s lack of followers and a display image, fans pointed out its previous use to announce Childish Gambino’s ‘SWARM’ EP, which featured music composed for Glover’s Amazon series of the same name. Glover’s most recent album was 2020’s ‘3.15.20’, earning praise for its candidness and unique approach.
Glover has been busy outside the music scene. He concluded his acclaimed FX series Atlanta in 2022, collaborated with his brother Stephen on writing the upcoming Disney+ ‘Star Wars’ series, ‘Lando,’ and worked on the highly anticipated ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ series, set for release in February.
