Austin Butler to Star in Sony’s New Crime Thriller, ‘Caught Stealing’

Sony Pictures has recently acquired Aronofsky’s latest project, the crime thriller ‘Caught Stealing,’ which is set to star the talented newcomer Austin Butler. This exciting collaboration promises to deliver another enthralling addition to Aronofsky’s impressive body of work.

Darren Aronofsky, renowned for his bold and visually captivating filmmaking style, has made a significant mark in cinema with his intellectually stimulating narratives and profound character explorations. From the psychological depth of ‘Black Swan’ to the surreal odyssey of ‘Requiem for a Dream,’ Aronofsky’s films push the boundaries of storytelling and provoke thought among audiences.

‘Caught Stealing,’ based on the gripping novels by Charlie Huston, will delve into the gritty tale of Hank Thompson, a disillusioned former baseball player thrust into a perilous fight for survival amidst the dark criminal underworld of 1990s New York City.

Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Darren is one of the most brilliant visual storytellers in the world and adapting these fantastic books by Charlie Huston for Austin to star in was an opportunity too exciting to miss.”

Austin Butler, known for his acclaimed performance in Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis,’ continues to impress audiences with his versatility and skill. Currently appearing in Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part 2’ and Apple TV’s miniseries ‘Masters of Air,’ Butler’s star is on the rise.

Expressing his excitement about the collaboration, Aronofsky said, “I am thrilled to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-fueled roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to begin working with Austin and my team of New York City filmmakers.”

The script for ‘Caught Stealing’ will be penned by Charlie Huston himself, ensuring an authentic adaptation of his acclaimed book. The movie will be produced by Protozoa, with Aronofsky represented by CAA, Narrative and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
