Benedict Cumberbatch Searches for Missing Son in ‘Eric’: First Look Revealed

Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the role of a father deeply committed to finding his missing son in the upcoming Netflix limited series ‘Eric’. Set against the backdrop of 1980s New York, the series follows Cumberbatch’s character, Vincent, and Gaby Hoffmann’s character, Cassie, as they embark on a relentless search for their son, Edgar, portrayed by Ivan Morris Howe. Cassie is dismayed as Vincent, a children’s television puppeteer, immerses himself in his work to aid in the search for their son.

As authorities intensify their efforts to locate Edgar, Vincent seizes upon one of his son’s drawings depicting Eric, a potential puppet character for Vincent’s show, ‘Good Day Sunshine’. Determined to bring the imagined creature to life on screen to draw Edgar back home, Vincent becomes increasingly fixated on the idea. In a moment of desperation, he expresses to Cassie his belief that featuring Eric on the show will signal their desire for Edgar to return.

However, Cassie is alarmed by Vincent’s escalating obsession. As Vincent grapples with the profound loss of his son, his behaviour grows increasingly erratic and volatile, causing strain on his relationships with family, colleagues, and the detectives aiding in the search. Amidst this turmoil, Eric, a figment born of necessity, emerges as Vincent’s sole ally in his quest to reunite with his son.

The series, also featuring McKinley Belcher III, Dan Fogler, and Clarke Peters, is created, written, and executive produced by Abi Morgan, known for her work on acclaimed projects such as ‘Chernobyl’ and ‘The Iron Lady’. Cumberbatch, along with Jane Featherstone, Lucy Dyke, and director Lucy Forbes, serves as an executive producer, with Holly Pullinger as the producer.
