Bill Paxton’s Son James Makes Cameo in ‘Twisters’

James Paxton, son of the late Bill Paxton, who starred in the original ‘Twister’, makes a brief cameo in the sequel, ‘Twisters’. Though his role is short, it’s a nod to his father’s legacy.

James, 30, described his appearance in ‘Twisters’—which premiered on July 19—as an “easter egg” for fans of Bill Paxton. In the film, James plays an irate motel guest who, along with his female companion, is caught up in the chaos as a tornado approaches. His character’s frustration with the motel manager and his threat to leave a bad review occurs just as the storm begins to hit. The scene concludes with James’ character and his companion being swept away by the tornado.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, James explained that his cameo was a heartfelt tribute to his father. “It was really a cameo,” he said, noting that he took on the role to honour his dad. Bill Paxton, known for his roles in ‘Aliens’ and ‘The Terminator’, passed away in February 2017 at age 61. James expressed that participating in this film was an emotional experience, meant to channel his father’s spirit and support the production.

James also shared that his father was initially hesitant about his desire to act due to the challenging nature of the industry. “Dad was a bit reticent,” James said, recalling his father’s advice to pursue other interests if he felt even slightly inclined. Despite this, James persisted and eventually landed a significant role in ‘Eyewitness’, which he credits with launching his acting career.
