Since 2015, Vogue has enforced this policy to minimize distractions and maintain the focus on the event’s purpose and fundraising efforts. Last year, Billie Eilish made headlines for breaking this tradition, sharing a bathroom selfie on her Instagram Story. The photo, taken during the Gala, featured Eilish alongside Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, and Halle Bailey, with Eilish playfully referencing the “No smoking, no vaping” sign in the background.

The Met Gala’s stringent regulations extend beyond social media etiquette. Smoking on the premises is strictly prohibited, following a controversy in 2017 when celebrities were photographed smoking in the bathroom, sparking criticism from donors and board members. Additionally, an age limit was introduced in 2018, barring attendees under 18 from the event due to its adult nature.

Beyond these rules, the Gala’s culinary offerings undergo careful consideration to ensure a seamless and elegant dining experience. Vogue’s Anna Wintour reportedly has a hand in selecting the menu, which excludes items like parsley, onions, garlic, and bruschetta to prevent potential mishaps such as food stains on guests’ attire.
