Billie Eilish Praises Ex Jesse Rutherford as ‘One of My Favorite People’

Billie Eilish has opened up about her relationship with ex-boyfriend Jesse Rutherford, sharing her admiration for him and revealing her current stance on dating in an unpublished excerpt from her Rolling Stone cover story.

In the excerpt released, coinciding with the drop of her third studio album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’, the 22-year-old ‘Lunch’ singer expressed that she and Rutherford, 32, remain on very good terms. “That’s my guy, truly one of my favourite people in the world,” Eilish said of the rocker.

Eilish, who is currently single, humorously stated that she has no plans to date again anytime soon. “I plan on never dating again,” she joked, before clarifying, “That’s not true, obviously. But no, I don’t see myself being serious with anyone until I find someone that really feels right to me, and that is not interesting to me right now.”

These comments come a year after Eilish’s representative confirmed her split from Rutherford to PEOPLE. The couple, who were last seen together at Coachella in April 2023, dated for less than a year. “We can confirm Billie and Jesse did split amicably and remain good friends,” her rep stated, adding that all cheating rumours were false.

On Instagram Stories last August, Eilish addressed her relationship with Rutherford, describing him as “very very good friends only” and “my homie forever.”

Eilish and Rutherford’s romance was first noted on 13th October 2022, when they were seen getting cosy at Crossroads Kitchen in West Hollywood. They later made their relationship Instagram official on 1st November 2022, with Eilish sharing photos of their Halloween costumes.

The former couple attended several high-profile events together, including the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty and the 2022 LACMA Art + Film Gala, where they debuted publicly.

Since their breakup, Eilish has been more open about her love life and her journey of self-discovery, especially regarding her sexuality. In a Rolling Stone interview, she expressed frustration over the public’s reaction to her coming out in Variety in December. “The whole world suddenly decided who I was, and I didn’t get to say anything or control any of it,” she said, emphasizing the unfairness of internet pressure on personal identities.

Eilish’s new album features the explicit track ‘Lunch’ which she credits as a significant part of her self-discovery. “That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am,” she revealed. “I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after.”

Reflecting on her lifelong attraction to women, Eilish concluded, “I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand.”
