Billie Eilish and filmmaker James Cameron may seem like an unexpected creative pairing, but the two have now teamed up to co-direct 'Billie Eilish–Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D),' which arrives in theatres on Friday, 8th May.

Speaking at the movie's Los Angeles premiere recently, Eilish shared that the collaboration started with a surprising email Cameron sent to her mother, Maggie Baird. Cameron's wife had previously worked with or known Baird, which helped spark the connection.

Billie Eilish Shares How James Cameron Pitched The Idea

According to Eilish, Cameron already had the entire concept planned out before reaching out to her mom. He wondered why no one had ever filmed one of her concerts in 3D and wanted to bring the idea to life himself. The singer admitted she was shocked by the ambitious concept but quickly realised how exciting it could be.

Billie Eilish said she agreed to the project immediately and never hesitated about working with the Oscar-winning director. After speaking on the phone, the two moved forward with the film together.

At the premiere, James Cameron returned the praise, saying Billie Eilish already had a clear artistic vision before filming even began. He noted that while he handled the filming process, Eilish had already created the concert experience through her performances and stage production.

The film also features appearances by Eilish's brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas O'Connell. Along with performances from the sold-out 2025 world tour, the movie captures emotional moments between Eilish and her fans, giving audiences an immersive 3D concert experience on the big screen.
