Blake Lively Wears Britney Spears’ Iconic Dress to ‘It Ends With Us’ Premiere

Blake Lively was thrilled to channel a pop icon’s style during the latest stop on the ‘It Ends with Us’ press tour. At 36, Lively went all out for the film’s red carpet premiere in New York City, by donning a vintage Versace gown previously worn by Britney Spears in 2002.

“This is Britney’s actual dress,” Lively exclusively told PEOPLE. “It should be in the Smithsonian or the Met. But here it is on me. I feel incredibly lucky!”

Staying true to her summer-long floral-themed wardrobe, inspired by her character Lily Bloom and her flower shop in the movie, the Versace dress featured embellished flowers across the waist. The multicoloured sequined gown boasted a one-shoulder halter neckline with a unique bodice cutout.

Lively complemented her outfit with rings from Lorraine Schwartz’s fine jewellery line, matching the dress’s vibrant pink and pastel blue hues, and a pair of dangle drop earrings in the same colours. She opted for simple, iridescent strappy heels. Her makeup echoed the dress’s colours with soft pink eyeshadow and matte lipstick, while her long blonde hair flowed in loose waves down her back.

Lively also posted a heartfelt tribute to Britney Spears on her Instagram Stories. “Today’s mood: The ultimate queen who made us all want to sparkle, write, and share our stories,” she wrote over a photo of Spears in the Versace dress from 2002. “Britney, we millennials all have moments or years when you inspired us to shine, evoke awe, and work hard with joy and strength. Thank you for setting an example and encouraging women to share their stories.”

Lively attended the premiere with her husband, Ryan Reynolds, who sported an olive green suit adorned with a white floral boutonniere—a nod to Lively’s character. They were joined by ‘Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine’ costar, Hugh Jackman.

Since the promotion for the movie, based on Colleen Hoover’s book of the same name, began in June, Lively has consistently incorporated florals into her outfits. While promoting her Blake Brown haircare line, she expressed her enthusiasm for method dressing, explaining that it helps her fully immerse herself in a character.

As the release of ‘It Ends with Us’ approaches, Lively is likely to showcase more floral-inspired outfits. From minidresses to flower-print jeans, floral shorts, and embroidered chaps, she probably has a few more floral pieces ready for the spotlight before the film hits theatres.
