Bradley Cooper almost dropped out of the 2012 crime drama ‘The Place Beyond the Pines,’ according to co-writer and director Derek Cianfrance, who recently made this revelation. In addition to Cooper, the film's ensemble cast includes Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne and Mahershala Ali.
It explores the complex relationships between a police officer and a motorcycle stuntman through three interconnected stories that span fifteen years.

Cianfrance disclosed that Darius Marder completely rewrote the script just before principal photography, which didn't sit well with Cooper. Though Cooper accepted some of Marder's notes, he was unhappy with the drastic alterations made to the script.
At first, surprised by Cooper's rebuff, Cianfrance tried desperately to convince him to reconsider. After relocating his family to Schenectady for the filming, Cianfrance went to Montreal to personally meet with Cooper to discuss his worries.

Following an extensive discussion that continued into the wee hours of the morning, Cianfrance was able to persuade Cooper to change his mind, thus obtaining his involvement in the project.
In unrelated news, Mendes recently stood up to critics of her husband Ryan Gosling's Oscar nomination for his part in the upcoming movie ‘Barbie.’
