Camila Cabello Shares She Lost Virginity to Ex Matthew Hussey at 20: ‘It Was Beautiful’
Camila Cabello described losing her virginity to her first serious boyfriend, Matthew Hussey, as a “beautiful” experience.
Now 27, the singer reminisced about her relationship and that intimate moment with the 36-year-old relationship coach on Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast. She recounted meeting Hussey for the first time on the set of the TODAY show in February 2018.
“I was outside where they have the TV with the scripts,” she said. “I had listened to his podcast before as a fan because he had a dating podcast.” Cabello, who is a podcast enthusiast, remembered telling Hussey, “Oh my God. I’m such a big fan,” and they ended up going out to dinner that same night.

Reflecting on her first relationship, Cabello explained that she was 20 years old at the time and felt “lonely.” “I was like, ‘Oh my God. I’ve never had a boyfriend,'” she said, mentioning that she had written multiple songs about feeling lonely.
When Shepard, 49, asked if she had been sexually active before turning 20, Cabello replied, “No. That was my first time having sex. My first lovemaking was at 20, 21. … It was literally lovemaking. It was beautiful.”
Cabello credited Hussey’s experience as a relationship coach for making him a great partner. “He was a really great person. It was like the perfect first relationship,” she said. “He expanded my world because he wasn’t in my industry. It was like, ‘Oh my God. Have you ever seen ‘Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown’? And have you ever seen Studio Ghibli films?’ He just really expanded my references.”
PEOPLE confirmed that Cabello and Hussey broke up in June 2019.
Cabello began dating fellow musician Shawn Mendes in July 2019, but they split after two years in November 2021. Rumours of a reconciliation surfaced after they were seen kissing at Coachella in April 2023, but PEOPLE confirmed they were still single as of June.
Hussey married Audrey Le Strat in October 2023 and released his second book, ‘Love Life’, in April. Cabello’s upcoming fourth album, ‘C, XOXO’, is set to be released on Friday, 28th June.
