Cardi B Opens Up on Negative Comments: “Made Me Afraid to Do Everything”

Cardi B, known for her bold personality and infectious energy, recently revealed a surprising side in a new interview. The Grammy-winning rapper spoke candidly about how negative online comments impacted her confidence and public life throughout 2023.

In a vulnerable conversation on Complexes 360 with Speedy, Cardi admitted to feeling afraid of constant criticism. This fear, she explained, led to a significant decrease in public appearances and musical output. While Cardi consistently delivers hit singles after her debut album ‘Invasion of Privacy’, saw a noticeable drop in activity.

“A lot of music commenters just be like, ‘She’s afraid to drop an album, she’s afraid to drop music,'” Cardi shared. This negativity, according to the rapper, contributed to her releasing only one single as the lead artist, ‘Bongo’ with Megan Thee Stallion.

The impact extended beyond music. Cardi, previously outspoken on social and political issues, found herself withdrawing from these conversations as well.  “I love talking about politics and everything,” she stated, “but I’m just so afraid of just getting dragged every single day.”  This shift likely surprised fans who witnessed her past interviews with figures like Bernie Sanders and President Joe Biden.

However, 2024 seems to mark a turning point. Cardi has already released two solo singles, ‘Like What (Freestyle)’ and ‘Enough (Miami)’, and even took the stage with Madonna at her recent Los Angeles concert.

The interview also revealed a renewed commitment to her fans. “I should be catering to you,” Cardi declared, “because you’re the ones that put money in my pocket, and you’re the ones that love me.”  This shift in focus suggests a Cardi B ready to prioritise her fans and artistic expression despite the potential for negativity.
