Charli XCX Reveals Viral Track ‘Apple’ Almost “Didn’t Make” ‘Brat’

It’s hard to imagine Charli XCX’s latest viral hit being left off her new album, ‘Brat’, but according to her, that was almost the case. The British pop star revealed this surprising detail in an Instagram post, writing, “A little secret ‘Apple’ nearly didn’t cut the final tracklist… imagine lol.” The track has since become a sensation, with even the stars of ‘Twisters’, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos, joining the trend by showcasing their own dance moves inspired by the song.

In her Instagram post, Charli included a series of fan videos featuring the ‘Apple’ dance craze, adding in her caption, “anyways it’s her world and we’re just living in it!!” The song’s “epic” choreography was first performed by Charli, along with fellow pop star Troye Sivan and photographer Terrence O’Connor, in a TikTok video. The choreography, created by TikTok user Kelly Heyer, has quickly become a fan favourite.

“Epic choreo moment incoming on sweat tour!” Charli captioned the tutorial post, referencing her and Sivan’s upcoming co-headlining tour. The duo is set to kick off their tour in Detroit, with subsequent stops in Toronto, New York City, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Denver, Los Angeles, and Portland, before wrapping up in Seattle.

Charli’s new hit song and the highly anticipated tour coincide with ‘Brat’s’ summertime takeover, a trend fueled by the album’s vibrant neon green cover. In a recent interview on the BBC Sounds podcast, Charli explained the concept of “Brat Summer,” describing it as a mix of luxury and trashy elements, such as a pack of cigarettes, a BIC lighter, and a strappy white top with no bra.

Speaking to Billboard, Charli shared that she has more plans for ‘Brat’ beyond the summer. She confirmed that additional remixes following her deluxe album are in the works, though she remained tight-lipped about the specifics. Her comments hinted at a continuous stream of new content for her fans to look forward to.

Charli also teased a potential project in Poland, where she plans to spend three weeks. “Well, I don’t really know if I should say because I also don’t know if we’re going to do it,” she shared with Billboard. “We might actually just go to Poland and not do that, but that is the idea.” Whether or not the project materialises, Charli’s commitment to exploring new creative ventures remains evident.
