Chris Evans may have missed one of the year’s biggest red carpet events, but it was for a heartfelt reason. The ‘Avengers’ star was conspicuously missing from the Cannes Film Festival debut of his new dark comedy ‘Honey Don't!’ in which director Ethan Coen was joined by co-stars Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day, and Margaret Qualley. Instead, Evans chose to stay home in the U.S. to celebrate a major milestone: his mother’s 70th birthday.

The actor, 43, shared the reason for his absence on Instagram Stories, expressing his support for the film’s debut while highlighting the importance of family. He stated that while he wished he could have joined his cast and crew in France, some moments in life, like his mother’s milestone birthday, are simply too meaningful to miss.

Evans has always maintained a close relationship with his family. In a past interview, he described his mom, Lisa, as a larger-than-life personality and credited her with supporting his career choices, even during pivotal moments like taking on the role of ‘Captain America’. He once shared that one of his biggest concerns was losing his anonymity, but Lisa reminded him that some opportunities can open lifelong doors.

Chris Evans takes on a dark and compelling role in ‘Honey Don't!’, portraying a magnetic cult leader at the centre of a chilling mystery. Margaret Qualley plays Honey O'Donahue, a private investigator who is desperate to find the truth. The dark comedy ‘Honey Don't!’ is scheduled to hit theatres on 22nd August, 2025.

Meanwhile, fans can also catch Evans in the romantic comedy ‘Materialists’, co-starring Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, which hits theatres on 13th June.

By choosing family over fame, Chris Evans reminded fans once again that staying grounded — even at the peak of stardom — is what makes him a true Hollywood standout.
