Chris Hemsworth’s Attempt to Get Role in New Film Rebuffed by Kevin Costner

Recently, Chris Hemsworth expressed his disappointment at not being able to work alongside Kevin Costner. The 40-year-old actor of ‘Thor’ disclosed at CinemaCon 2024 that he turned down a position in a Western picture that Costner was directing, preferring to keep the job for himself.

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas on 11th April, Hemsworth vented to Entertainment Tonight about his futile attempt to get Costner to change his mind. Hemsworth tried to convince him for an hour but was unable to land the part. He described the project as an “abstract” love story about a guy and a woman.

Elsa Pataky, his wife, was particularly excited for him to take on the job because it involves horses, a topic near and dear to their hearts. After all, they own multiple horses in their native country.

Hemsworth admitted that he was sad, but that Costner’s experience with the Western genre was a better fit for the film. In reaction to Hemsworth’s story, Costner said that Hemsworth would have to “wait his turn,” implying that he would like to keep playing these kinds of roles for as long as he feels qualified.

All of Costner’s praise for Hemsworth was congruent with his recognition of the actor’s skill and good looks, as well as his assurance that Hemsworth would find a captivating love tale to play.

Despite this setback, Hemsworth is still optimistic about getting the chance to collaborate with Costner again because he considers him to be one of the top men in the business. In the interim, Costner is busy directing and acting in ‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1,’ a Western that will hit theatres on 16th August and 28th June.

Hemsworth’s upcoming film, ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,’ starring Anya Taylor-Joy, is scheduled for release on 24th May.
