Christian Bale Unveiled as Frankenstein’s Monster in 'The Bride'

Christian Bale as Frankenstein's Monster and Jesse Buckley as a reanimated corpse are two characters that Maggie Gyllenhaal has teased fans will see in her upcoming movie, ‘The Bride.’

Gyllenhaal, who is directing the Warner Bros. period picture for the second time after 2021's ‘The Lost Daughter,’ shared the photos on Instagram following a recent camera test. He captioned the post with a black heart emoji and said, "Meet The Bride and Frank."

A new interpretation of the traditional Frankenstein story, ‘The Bride’ is set in Chicago in the 1930s. In Buckley's portrayal, a young woman is murdered and, when resurrected, she surprises her creators by yearning for romance and by playing a part in inciting a radical social movement.

Renowned cinematographer Lawrence Sher, best known for his work on ‘Joker,’ is also part of the cast, joining Bale and Buckley along with Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Bening.

The 94th Academy Awards saw three nominations for Gyllenhaal's directorial debut, Netflix's ‘The Lost Daughter,’ including 'Best Actress' for Olivia Colman, 'Best Supporting Actress' for Buckley and 'Best Adapted Screenplay.'

In the meantime, Guillermo del Toro is filming his adaptation of ‘Frankenstein’, which stars Jacob Elordi as the renowned monster. The film, which is being produced by Netflix and also stars Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, and Mia Goth, stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein.

Filming for Del Toro's project, his first feature film since 2022's ‘Pinocchio,’ started in February. Regarding Gyllenhaal, ‘The Bride,’ is slated to open in theatres on 2nd October 2025.
