Cillian Murphy Says He Rarely Watches His Movies

Cillian Murphy recently opened up about an interesting aspect of his career, admitting that he hasn’t watched many of his films. In a candid interview with GQ, the ‘Oppenheimer’ star shared that he often follows Johnny Depp’s lead in this regard, emphasizing, “Many of my films I haven’t seen,” particularly those that he’s heard didn’t receive favourable reviews.

One exception to this self-imposed rule is the 2005 psychological thriller ‘Red Eye,’ where Murphy played a seemingly courteous and charming passenger with a dark secret. Despite acknowledging his enjoyment working with co-star Rachel McAdams, he candidly expressed, “I don’t think it’s a good movie,” describing it as a “good B movie.”

Murphy’s attraction to the role stemmed from the character’s duality, emphasizing the complexity of playing both the nice guy and the antagonist within the same character.

However, when it comes to his recent work, Murphy has indeed watched ‘Oppenheimer,’ the biopic directed by Christopher Nolan. In the film, he portrays theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. Despite rolling his eyes at the question, Murphy affirmed that he had seen the movie, which has garnered thirteen Oscar nominations, including one for his stellar performance.

NME praised Murphy’s portrayal in a five-star review, describing ‘Oppenheimer’ as a “complicated man” brought brilliantly to life by Murphy in a film that “roars with fire, literally.”

On a personal note, it was revealed last week that Murphy’s son is set to make his film acting debut this year in a project directed by Taika Waititi, adding another layer of excitement to the Murphy family’s involvement in the world of cinema.
