Cillian Murphy to Star in ‘Far Cry 7’? We Think Not

A recent teaser from a well-known Ubisoft insider sparked quite the buzz among fans, stirring up wild speculation about the next instalment in the ‘Far Cry’ series. While some enthusiasts interpreted the cryptic post as a hint that ‘Far Cry 7’ might feature actor Cillian Murphy, the leaker later clarified that it meant something entirely different, dashing hopes of seeing Murphy take on a role in the game.

The ‘Far Cry’ franchise, known for its action-packed gameplay and immersive open worlds, has been on a break since the release of its sixth mainline entry in 2021, which received mixed reviews. However, Ubisoft Toronto indirectly confirmed that another ‘Far Cry’ game was in development when it began hiring for a new project linked to the popular series in August 2023.

Fast forward eight months, and the speculation kicked into high gear when YouTuber and seasoned Ubisoft insider j0nathan took to Twitter with a puzzling teaser. The post featured images of Cillian Murphy, a ticking bomb set for 72 hours, concept art depicting a colossal crab, and the number seven, leaving fans to decipher its meaning. While some were frustrated by the enigmatic nature of the teaser, others eagerly delved into conjecture.

One prevailing theory suggested that ‘Far Cry 7’ would cast Cillian Murphy, possibly as a villain, based on the imagery shared in the teaser. However, the leaker swiftly debunked this idea, clarifying that Murphy’s association with an upcoming project called Oppenheimer could be the real clue behind the teaser, hinting at themes of nuclear weaponry.

Another possibility floated by Twitter user ThomasParquet1 proposed that Murphy’s name might be shared with a character in the game while linking the bomb image to reports of an in-game timer giving players 72 hours to complete ‘Far Cry 7.’

As for the mysterious crab image, credited to Italian concept artist Luigi Giordano, its relevance to ‘Far Cry 7’ remains uncertain. Despite Giordano’s lack of known ties to Ubisoft, it’s the subject matter of the artwork, titled ‘King Of The Cliffs,’ that may hold clues about the upcoming game rather than the artist himself.
