Craig Gillespie Set to Direct Supergirl For DC Studios: What We Know About The DCU Project

Warner Bros.’ DC Studios is actively preparing for its next female-led fantasy film, ‘Supergirl’. While the main cast has been confirmed, discussions are underway with director Craig Gillespie for the project. Following the tradition of earlier DC Universe (DCU) endeavours, ‘Supergirl’ draws inspiration from a comic book illustrated by Bilquis Evely.

Production for ‘Supergirl’ is set to commence after the completion of James Gunn’s ‘Superman’, slated for release on July 11. Currently, the cast and crew are stationed in Georgia for the remaining filming schedules. The woman-centred narrative is earmarked for release in Q4 of the schedule.

Milly Alcock, known for her role in ‘The House of the Dragon’, steps into the iconic Supergirl suit for this DCU instalment. Alcock’s previous work has garnered acclaim, heightening anticipation among fans for her portrayal in this new venture. Although reports hint at Alcock’s involvement in ‘Superman’, official confirmation is pending from the production team.

During a recent press conference, James Gunn shared insights into ‘Supergirl’, emphasising the character’s stark contrast with Superman. He elaborated on Supergirl’s challenging upbringing on Krypton, witnessing tragedy and loss before arriving on Earth. This backstory shapes her character into a more complex and resilient figure compared to the traditional depiction of Supergirl.
