Danny Ramirez Set to Soar in ‘Top Gun 3’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World’

The 2024 Sundance Film Festival turned into a grand reunion for the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ crew, as Danny Ramirez, Glen Powell and Jay Ellis graced the event with their presence, each starring in films showcased at the festival.

As the news of a third ‘Top Gun’ movie buzzed through the airwaves just days before the trio arrived in Park City, UT, Ramirez spilled the beans. He revealed that their cast’s group text, humourously named with the emojis “up” and “gun,” had been abuzz with queries about the upcoming project’s developments.

Ramirez expressed enthusiasm about the potential for a third film but emphasized the need for it to be just right, recalling the 30-year gap between the original ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Maverick.’

“Being cognizant of that, we’re excited at the prospect of everyone back in the air,” he teased, admitting to feeling withdrawals and juggling his roles as Lieutenant Mickey ‘Fanboy’ Garcia in the ‘Top Gun’ franchise and Joaquin Torres, who officially takes on the superhero alter ego Falcon in the upcoming Marvel movie ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’

While splitting his time between the skies in these high-flying roles, Ramirez shifted his focus at Adobe on Main during Sundance. There, in a conversation led by Variety about diversity in the film industry, the actor honed in on a more grounded project – Susanna Fogel’s ‘Winner,’ delving into the story of NSA contractor-turned-whistleblower Reality Winner.

Before being presented with the script, Ramirez had never heard of ‘Winner’, but he was intrigued by Fogel’s interpretation of the story, which seemed straight out of the headlines. He found it immensely entertaining and distinctive, he remarked, elucidating his decision to join Emilia Jones’s film.
