In this romantic comedy, Brie portrayed Ally, a TV producer navigating life's uncertainties upon returning to her hometown and encountering an ex-boyfriend, all under Franco's direction.
Brie also featured in Franco's directorial debut, the 2020 horror film ‘The Rental,’ a gripping tale of two couples renting a vacation home for a celebratory weekend. Their on-screen chemistry has been evident in previous projects like ‘The Little Hours’ and ‘The Disaster Artist’ in 2017.

Reflecting on their collaboration during ‘The Rental,’ Franco praised Brie's unique acting abilities, highlighting her seamless balance between heavy drama and moments of levity. In a 2020 interview, Franco expressed gratitude for Brie's support throughout the filmmaking process, emphasizing how her presence was invaluable during moments of self-doubt.
As a first-time director, he credited her with providing encouragement and a reminder that their work was making a positive impact.
