David Arquette Shuts Down Cameo Rumours For ‘Scream 7’: “I Don’t Think So”

David Arquette has seemingly dashed hopes of his fan-favourite character Dewey Riley making a return in the upcoming ‘Scream 7’. When a fan called into Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to inquire about the possibility of seeing Dewey in some form, such as a flashback sequence, Arquette responded, “I don’t think so — I mean, I don’t know!” with a laugh.

The actor, who portrayed Dewey in the first five Scream films, added, “I guess there’s a chance, but I haven’t gotten any calls or anything.” He also mentioned that Neve Campbell, who returns as Sidney Prescott in the new movie, had not “spilled any tea” to him about ‘Scream 7.’

Following the success of ‘Scream VI’, which achieved the highest opening weekend box office for the franchise, a seventh film was announced. Despite Dewey’s character being killed off in 2022’s Scream, Arquette told Variety that he watched the latest instalment of the slasher franchise, stating, “It was hard for me to do it, but I also knew I wanted to see it. I loved it.”

Reflecting on his experience, Arquette shared, “It was sad. I had lots of FOMO.” He expressed his feelings of missing out, having been a core part of the series alongside Campbell and Courteney Cox, who together formed the trio of heroes continually hunted by serial killers donning the Ghostface persona.

Arquette was not the only original cast member absent from ‘Scream VI’. Although Campbell’s character Sidney survived the 2022 instalment, the actress announced her decision to step away from the franchise later that year, citing dissatisfaction with the offer presented to her. “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise,” Campbell said in a June 2022 statement.

However, Campbell announced in March that she would be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott for the new movie, following the departures of newer franchise stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. “I’ve lived with Sidney for 30 years, and I’m really, really grateful to get to go back to it,” Campbell said.
