Dean McDermott on Divorce From Tori Spelling: ‘I Am Well’

Following the news of his divorce from his wife Tori Spelling, Dean McDermott has finally spoken out.

The 57-year-old Canadian actor revealed that he is “well” handling the news of their divorce in a video that was obtained by the Daily Mail. He acknowledged that it has taken a long time, but he reassured viewers that everything is well.

In an earlier episode of her new podcast, ‘misSPELLING,’ Spelling opened up about their breakup and revealed that she had been thinking about getting a divorce from McDermott for about fifteen years. Thinking back on their eighteen-year union, she acknowledged that they frequently cracked jokes about how long it shouldn’t have lasted.

Irreconcilable differences were stated as the reason for Spelling’s separation in court records that PEOPLE was able to obtain. Their official separation date is 17th June 2023. Spelling asked for joint legal custody with visitation rights for McDermott, as well as spousal support and sole physical custody of their five minor children.

McDermott posted a since-deleted statement on Instagram the same day Spelling announced their separation, announcing their decision to split after 18 years of marriage and five kids.

There had previously been difficulties in their relationship, most notably after McDermott came clean about her infidelity in 2014. Trust issues persisted despite efforts to mend their relationship, including reaffirming their vows in 2010, which were made worse by McDermott’s continued sobriety struggles.

Friends expressed surprise at their separation announcement, saying that even with their recent attempts to mend fences, it still caught them off guard. Later, McDermott disclosed to the Daily Mail how their marriage had failed, describing a turbulent dynamic characterised by fights and drug usage.

Afterwards, McDermott started dating Lily Calo, and Spelling was spotted kissing Ryan Cramer in November. Both have moved on romantically. McDermott praised Spelling’s empathy and generosity, acknowledging her as his biggest supporter despite their newfound relationships, particularly during his sobriety journey.
