‘Death Stranding,’ the mind-bending 2019 video game by the legendary Hideo Kojima, is stepping off the screen and onto the big stage. A24 is joining forces with Kojima Productions to cook up a live-action adaptation of the game. We're talking about a game that's slung over five million copies and wears the crown of being one of the top dogs in 21st-century gaming.
Why the big buzz? Well, the news of ‘Death Stranding’ hitting the movie circuit couldn't have come at a better time – just a hop, skip and a jump before Kojima Productions blows out its eighth birthday candles on 16th December.
The scoop from these two powerhouses gives us a taste of what's cooking: "The film promises to delve into the mysteries surrounding the apocalyptic event called the ‘Death Stranding,’ which blurred the lines between life and death, and brought forth nightmarish creatures into a world on the brink of collapse."
Kojima himself showered praise on A24, saying, “A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my work."
Kojima stated, “There are a lot of ‘game adaptation films’ out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema."
In other words, they're not playing around. They're crafting a ‘Death Stranding’ universe that's never seen the light of day, and they're using the magic of film to bring it to life.
