Demi Lovato Shines (Literally) in Silver Gown With 500 Hand-Cut Flowers at The Met Gala 2024

Demi Lovato graced the Met Gala red carpet, marking her comeback to the prestigious event after her last attendance in 2016. “It’s a privilege to be back at the Met Gala,” Lovato shared with Vogue. The theme for this year’s event, ‘Garden of Time,’ struck a chord with the singer, resonating both personally and stylistically.

“When I think of a garden, I think of evolution, rebirth, and blooming—something that we as humans all experience over time,” Lovato reflected. “I’ve undergone many changes throughout my career, and I feel I’ve grown significantly since my first Met Gala, so I was eagerly anticipating attending this year.”

Naturally, Lovato opted for an impeccably elegant ensemble for the occasion, donning a custom-designed outfit by Prabal Gurung. “Prabal and I collaborated on a look that juxtaposes strength with delicacy,” Lovato revealed. Her strapless couture gown in white was meticulously crafted by hand and complemented with matching opera gloves. The gown’s fabric, a blend of silk-lamé, was adorned with sequins, glass crystals, and over 500 hand-cut mirrored mylar flowers with jewelled centres.

“The floral motifs exude femininity with a touch of futuristic toughness,” Gurung explained. “This gown encapsulates the multifaceted nature of Demi as an artist.” Gurung’s choice of sharp, glistening embellishments echoed the evening’s theme of ‘Garden of Time.'” “I wanted to embrace the idea of preserving something timeless,” Gurung elaborated.

“Instead of using delicate materials like chiffon, I opted for robust elements that endure the test of time.” Lovato admired the gown’s contrast between strength and softness, a reflection of her artistic persona. “The resilience of the sequins and glass crystals, coupled with the gracefulness of the silk and intricately embroidered flowers, not only aligns with the theme but also symbolizes the duality within myself as a person and an artist,” she remarked.

Although Lovato had numerous options for designers, she gravitated towards Gurung, appreciating his ability to weave storytelling into fashion. “Prabal’s designs always tell a story and carry meaning, which he beautifully showcased in crafting my look,” Lovato praised. “Despite only meeting him earlier this year, we already have a rapport akin to old friends. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of his creative journey.”
