‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ Shatters Major Viewership Record

The latest Disney Channel Original Movie has broken a significant viewership record. According to Deadline, ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ achieved the highest-ever premiere for a DCOM on the platform, garnering over 6.7 million views within its first three days. This surpasses previous records set by other Disney+ releases, such as ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’, which reported 4.6 million views in its initial three days.
While ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ can claim the top spot for a DCOM premiere, comparisons with other content like ‘The Acolyte’, which Disney reported at 4.8 million views on its first day (though not a DCOM), raise questions about longer-term viewership trends. Past releases such as ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ and ‘Loki Season 2’ also posted strong numbers, with 13.3 million and 10.9 million views respectively over their initial streaming periods.

Disney+ continues to strengthen its catalogue with beloved franchises like ‘Marvel’ and ‘Star Wars’, ensuring it remains a key platform for fans of superhero and sci-fi genres. Currently available alongside ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ is the Star Wars series ‘The Acolyte’, set centuries before ‘The Phantom Menace’. Upcoming releases include ‘Agatha All Along’, a ‘WandaVision’ spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn, premiering its first two episodes in September.
‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ will debut on Disney Channel in August, while fans can catch it now on Disney+ and stay updated with Collider for further developments.
