In an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow on the ‘Goop’ podcast, Scarlett Johansson spilled the beans on her past relationships, including the blink-and-you-missed-it marriage to Ryan Reynolds. The banter between the two actresses gave us a peek into Johansson’s take on her first famous hubby.
Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson’s love story kicked off in April 2007, leading to an engagement in May 2008 and a grand finale with a wedding in September of the same year on Vancouver Island, Canada. But by December 2010, the whispers of separation turned into a breakup bombshell, officially ending their union.
The joint statement, issued by the duo, went something like, “After careful consideration, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We began with love, and that’s how we’ll leave it. Privacy is appreciated, not expected.”

The divorce papers were signed in 2011. Navigating a relationship under the spotlight, Johansson confessed that career competition and hectic schedules played their part in straining the bond. As she shared, “Being with another actor is challenging. There has to be a real understanding of how you share your time, especially when two people’s careers are going at the same rate. If one person is more successful than the other, that also proves challenging. There may be a competitive thing.”
Fast forward to the podcast with Paltrow, where the actress cheekily grilled Johansson about her marriage tally.

Confirmed at three, the chat got interesting when Paltrow excitedly recalled Johansson’s time with Reynolds, proclaiming, “Oh, that’s right! I forgot that you were married to Ryan Reynolds! Goals!” Johansson responded with a nod, adding, “Yes! We weren’t married very long.” Paltrow teased her Marvel co-star, saying, “We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our home,” eliciting a laugh from the ‘Black Widow’ star, who admitted, “He’s a good guy!”
Married at 23, Johansson and Reynolds officially parted ways in 2011, keeping their marriage mostly under wraps. Reflecting on the whirlwind union, Johansson admitted to possibly romanticizing it in an interview. She shared, “The first time I got married, I was 23 years old. I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage. Maybe I kind of romanticized it, I think, in a way. It’s a different part of my life now. I feel like I’m in a place where I can make more active choices. I’m more present, I think, than I’ve been before.”
Moving on, Johansson tied the knot with French journalist Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017, sharing a daughter named Rose Dorothy Dauriac. Currently basking in happiness with Colin Jost, the couple welcomed their son Cosmo Jost. Meanwhile, Reynolds found marital bliss with Blake Lively in 2012 and has been riding the wave of happiness ever since.
