Disney Announces Exciting New Shows and Renewals at Annecy Animation Festival

Disney Branded Television’s Disney Junior maintained a strong presence at the Annecy Animation Festival, continuing its tradition of introducing new projects and renewing popular series. This year’s showcase featured a diverse lineup aimed at preschoolers and children, unveiling both freshly greenlit shows and previews of upcoming series and specials.

Highlighted announcements included Marvel’s ‘Moon Girl’ and ‘Devil Dinosaur: Moon Girl’s Lab’, a series of shorts chronicling Moon Girl’s adventures in science and villainy, featuring original music by Grammy-winner Raphael Saadiq. These shorts are scheduled for release on Disney Channel, Disney Channel YouTube, and Disney+.

Another highlight was ‘SuperKitties: Su-Purr Adventures’, animated shorts produced by Sony Pictures Television – Kids, focusing on superhero cats in Kittydale. These shorts will premiere on Disney Jr. and Disney Channel, and later be available on Disney+ and Disney Jr. YouTube, starting in August 2024.

Renewals were also celebrated, including the confirmation of a fifth season for ‘Big City Greens’, accompanied by the premiere of ‘Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation’ on 6th June 2024, underlining the series’ ongoing success.

‘Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol’, a new 22-minute holiday special from Disney Television Animation, was introduced for release in 2025, continuing the franchise’s legacy. Additionally, ‘Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures’ received attention with news of its second season premiering in August on Disney+ and Disney Jr.

New premieres were also announced, such as ‘Ariel’, an anticipated animated series arriving on Disney Jr. in the U.S., followed by Disney+. ‘Kindergarten: The Musical’, featuring a theme song by Eva Noblezada, will debut on September this year on Disney Jr. and Disney+.

‘StuGo’, an animated series by Titmouse, will premiere on October 2024, on Disney Channel and Disney+, portraying the escapades of middle schoolers at a summer camp. ‘The Doomies’, co-created by Andrés Fernandez, Henry Gifford, and Rémi Zaarour, was highlighted as well, offering a glimpse into its adventurous storyline produced by Xilam and Disney+.

The festival also marked Disney Television Animation’s 40th anniversary with a special panel recognizing its impact on animation globally. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, underscored the studio’s dedication to delivering visually captivating and meaningful content loved by young audiences worldwide.
