Doja Cat Claims She Doesn’t ‘Hate Her Fans’: “I Don’t Have to Explain My Sense of Humour”

Doja Cat took a moment to address some misconceptions surrounding her relationship with fans during an Apple Music interview with Ebro, released on 14th December. The rapper from Agoura Hills wanted to set the record straight about claims suggesting she harbours disdain for her loyal supporters.
In the interview, Doja emphasized that despite rumours, there’s no direct quote of her expressing hatred towards her fans. She acknowledged the widespread misquoting, stating, “Never said that, but I do like to play with that as a meme.” She expressed a nonchalant attitude towards those who may not understand her sense of humour, stating, “I don’t have to explain my sense of humour and explain comedy to anyone. If people don’t see the joke, then they just don’t see the joke and it’s not my responsibility to have them understand.”
The controversy sparked in July when Doja Cat criticized fans on Threads for using her government name as their screen name and adopting “Kittenz,” her fandom name. She bluntly remarked, “If you call yourself a ‘Kitten’ or f—ing ‘Kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.”
This led to a confirmed loss of 237,758 followers over the weekend.
Addressing another contentious topic, Doja tackled claims of satanic imagery in her videos, notably in ‘Paint the Town Red.’ She explained that dancing atop a green goblin in the video was simply a painting she created. She dismissed the notion of her art being offensive, saying, “It’s just a green goblin-y monster guy. … That was a really big piece for me. It was one of my proudest moments ever and people wrote that off as Satanism, it’s just a little green guy with horns and I’m standing on his head! Where’s the harm?”
Ultimately, Doja Cat recognizes the impossibility of pleasing everyone all the time and finds liberation in that realization. “I’m not gonna make everyone happy, and that’s just that,” she asserted. “I’m just not, and I know that I’m not, so that’s freed me immensely.”
