Dua Lipa Announces New Album ‘Radical Optimism’, Cover Revealed

Dua Lipa is gearing up for a new era with the announcement of her highly anticipated third studio album, titled ‘Radical Optimism’. This 11-song project is set to hit shelves in May and promises a fresh sonic exploration for fans.

The inspiration behind the album’s title goes beyond a simple feeling. Lipa explains it stemmed from a concept introduced by a friend a few years ago. ‘Radical Optimism’ resonated deeply with her, as it captured the essence of navigating life’s challenges with grace and unwavering resilience. “The idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm,” she said in a statement, perfectly encapsulates the album’s thematic core.

Fans already have a taste of what ‘Radical Optimism’ offers with the previously released singles ‘Houdini’ and ‘Training Season’. ‘Houdini’  showcased Lipa’s experimentation with electro-psychedelic elements and soared to No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  This success was followed by the disco-pop track ‘Training Season’, which dropped last month and secured a respectable No. 27 spot on the chart.

Lipa isn’t just sticking to her signature sound on this record. She reveals a desire to delve into a blend of musical influences, citing psychedelia, trip-hop and Britpop as key inspirations. This exploration of diverse genres reflects her interpretation of ‘Radical Optimism’ – a confident and honest approach to music that translates into the recording sessions.

Lipa recently showcased these new tracks at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where her contribution to the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack, ‘Dance the Night’, received nominations for both ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media.’

Adding a touch of lightheartedness to the creative process, Lipa revealed on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ that the foundation for ‘Radical Optimism’ began with a simple notebook purchased at a CVS pharmacy. “I started writing for this album in 2021, and I just wanted to write my ideas down,” she said.

Looking back with a hint of humour, she acknowledges the unexpected significance of the notebook, “Had I known how important that book would’ve been, maybe I would’ve gotten a more fancy one.”
