Dua Lipa Reflects on Full-Circle Moment as Katy Perry’s Friend

In a recent interview, Dua Lipa shared a heartwarming story about her blossoming friendship with pop icon Katy Perry. Lipa, a Grammy-winning artist herself, revealed how her admiration for Perry transcended the typical fan-idol relationship, eventually evolving into a genuine friendship.

The story goes back to Lipa’s teenage years when a 15-year-old Lipa attended one of Perry’s ‘California Dreams Tour’ concerts at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.

During a specific segment of the show, Perry would cover Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ and invite fans onstage to join her. Lipa, brimming with excitement, seized the opportunity and ended up dancing alongside her idol.

Fast forward to 2018, Lipa was performing at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Little did she know, Perry was in the audience, having recognized Lipa’s talent years earlier. Lipa described this moment as a “full-circle” experience, reminiscing about her own experience as a fan on Perry’s stage.

This encounter at Lipa’s concert wasn’t just a one-sided show of support. Perry, impressed by Lipa’s performance, had also spoken highly of her in a previous Rolling Stone interview.  She recalled attending Lipa’s show, even leaving work early during her stint as an American Idol judge, because she believed Lipa was destined for stardom.

Lipa expressed her gratitude for Perry’s encouragement, stating how much it meant to receive the “stamp of approval” from someone she deeply respected.
