The film came together after A24's film head Noah Sacco visited Garland in London. A passionate fan of the game, Garland introduced him to 'Elden Ring' and pitched the idea of a film adaptation. Sacco was immediately on board, and Garland went on to develop an extensive script and visual concept before securing approval from the game's creators in Japan.
