Elton John and Bernie Taupin Named Recipients of The 2024 Gershwin Prize

Renowned musician John, and his longtime songwriting collaborator Bernie Taupin, have been honoured as the esteemed recipients of the 2024 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. 

Established by the Library of Congress, this prestigious award aims to commend individuals who have made significant contributions to the realm of popular music through their profound influence, enduring impact and remarkable achievements.

The dynamic partnership between John and Taupin commenced in 1967, marking the inception of a legendary creative alliance that has spanned over five decades. Their prolific collaboration yielded its first monumental success with the chart-topping release of ‘Crocodile Rock’, a milestone achievement that set the stage for a plethora of ionic compositions to follow. 

Throughout their illustrious career, John and Taupin have crafted an extensive repertoire of timeless classics, including but not limited to ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’, ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me’, ‘Bennie and the Jets’, ‘Your Song’, ‘Rocket Man’ and ‘Tiny Dancer’.
