Emily Blunt Describes Director as 'Cruel' and Recollects Her Toughest Audition

Emily Blunt recently shared her harrowing audition experience at the tender age of 19 with Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky. Recounting her ordeal during auditions for the 2003 film ‘The Lion in Winter,’ the British actress described feeling emotionally shattered by Konchalovsky's cruel demeanour, leaving her feeling diminished and stripped of confidence.

Blunt expressed her dismay at the director's misogynistic behaviour, labelling the experience as one of her worst auditions. Despite not explicitly naming Konchalovsky during a speech at the US Foundation of Actors in December 2023, Blunt made thinly veiled references to him, describing him as "vile" and "horrible."

Moving forward in her career, Blunt's latest film ‘The Fall Guy,’ in which she stars alongside Ryan Gosling, has been performing well at the box office. The film, blending elements of action, comedy, and romance, sees Blunt stepping into the director's chair.

‘The Fall Guy’ follows the journey of Gosling's character, Colt Seaver, a stuntman thrust into real-life adventure when one of his co-stars disappears from the set. As described by IMDb, the film revolves around "a down-and-out stuntman [who] must find the missing star of his ex-girlfriend's blockbuster film."
