Emily Blunt shared that working with Meryl Streep on the first 'The Devil Wears Prada' film was a little intimidating because Streep stayed deeply immersed in her role as Miranda Priestly throughout filming. During a SiriusXM 'Front Row' special hosted by Andy Cohen, Blunt said she was genuinely nervous around Streep at the time, explaining that the Oscar winner carried the commanding energy of Miranda even off-camera.

Emily Blunt Was Scared of Meryl Streep

Blunt recalled that while the cast could approach Streep and chat, she often remained focused and didn't show the warm, playful side Blunt was used to seeing. That intense dedication, she said, made it feel as though Streep was still fully in character.

Streep agreed, saying she had deliberately kept some distance while filming to maintain Miranda's authority. She explained that creating a slight separation from the rest of the cast helped her embody the powerful magazine editor more convincingly. While it worked for the performance, she admitted it could feel isolating, especially when she was alone in her trailer while hearing the others having fun together.

Meryl Streep on Method Acting

The conversation also touched on method acting, with Streep saying she never found it difficult to stay in that mindset. She even mentioned recently discussing the topic with Greta Gerwig, noting that actors sometimes keep a small barrier between themselves and others to preserve the energy of a character.

The cast reunion comes as excitement builds for 'The Devil Wears Prada 2,' which arrives in theatres on 1st May. The sequel follows Miranda Priestly as she faces the changing magazine industry and goes head-to-head with Emily Blunt's character, now a powerful executive controlling the advertising money Miranda urgently needs.
