Eminem Marks 16 Years of Sobriety With a Proud Display of His Chip

Eminem, known for his iconic track ‘Lose Yourself’, recently achieved a significant milestone in his journey by celebrating 16 years of sobriety. Without specifying his age, the Grammy-winning artist, born Marshall Mathers, took to Instagram to share a poignant moment with his fans. In a touching post, Eminem showcased a new chip symbolising his remarkable 16-year sobriety journey.

The comments section of his post overflowed with heartfelt messages of support and congratulations from his dedicated followers. One fan account, Stanistheone, expressed admiration, stating, “We’re all proud of you for being 16 years sober 💪.” Fellow rapper DTG (real name Dylan Godfrey) also chimed in with encouraging words, emphasising, “Great decision you made brother! We’re all very proud of you ❤️.”

Reflecting on his journey, Eminem has openly discussed the pivotal moment that led him to embrace sobriety. He disclosed that a life-threatening drug overdose in 2007 served as a wake-up call, propelling him towards a sober lifestyle after grappling with consuming up to 20 pills daily.

In a candid conversation on Paul Rosenberg’s ‘Paul Pod’ podcast, Eminem shared, “I remember when I first got sober and all the s— was out of my system, I remember just being, like, really happy and everything was f—— new to me again.”

Acknowledging the support of his children, including his biological daughter Hailie Jade and his two adopted children, Alaina and Stevie, Eminem credited them for being instrumental in his sobriety journey. He also discussed his shift from addiction to a healthier lifestyle, highlighting his embrace of exercise as a crucial component of maintaining sobriety. 

In an interview, Eminem revealed, “When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober.” He elaborated on how running provided not only a natural endorphin boost but also aided in improving his sleep, making it an ideal substitute for his previous struggles.
