Emma Stone Triumphs, Jennifer Lawrence Sparks Laughter at 2024 Golden Globes

Jennifer Lawrence brought her trademark humour to the stage at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. As the six nominees for the ‘Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’ were announced, including Lawrence, the ‘No Hard Feelings’ star couldn’t resist adding a touch of wit.

As her name echoed through the Sunday night ceremony, Lawrence slyly mouthed to a camera, “If I don’t win, I’m leaving.” The anticipation was high, but when Emma Stone was declared the winner moments later for her role in ‘Poor Things,’ Lawrence didn’t let disappointment take the stage. Instead, she threw her hands in the air and playfully exclaimed, “Mother!” as she joined the chorus of cheers for Stone’s well-deserved victory.

The competition was stiff, with other talented nominees in the running, such as Fantasia Barrino for ‘The Color Purple,’ Natalie Portman for ‘May December,’ Alma Pöysti for ‘Fallen Leaves,’ and Margot Robbie for ‘Barbie.’ The camaraderie among the nominees was evident, but the playful banter between Lawrence and Stone stole the show.

Stone and Lawrence’s friendship, which spans years, traces back to their connection through Woody Harrelson. Harrelson, who collaborated with Stone in 2009’s ‘Zombieland’ and later worked with Lawrence in the ‘Hunger Games’ movies, played the role of matchmaker. Lawrence humorously recalled in a 2016 Vanity Fair cover story that Stone got her number from Harrelson, to which Lawrence’s reply was a cheeky, “F— off!” The rest, as they say, is history.

While Stone clinched the Golden Globe for ‘Poor Things,’ her nominations also extended to the small screen for her role in the Showtime television series ‘The Curse.’ This marked Stone’s seventh and eighth acting nods at the Golden Globes, adding to her impressive tally. The actress had previously triumphed at the awards ceremony in 2018 for her outstanding performance in ‘La La Land’, a year that also saw her securing the ‘Best Actress’ title at the Academy Awards.

On the other hand, Lawrence, with three Golden Globe statuettes under her belt for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, ‘American Hustle’ and ‘Joy,’ brought her total nominations to six at this year’s ceremony.
