‘Fantastic Four’ Will Be Set in The 1960s, Separate From MCU Events

Kevin Feige has shared some exciting news about the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ film. Speaking on the ‘Official Marvel’ Podcast, the Marvel Studios president revealed that the film will be set in the 1960s and won’t be part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Earlier this year, Marvel announced the core cast for the film, hinting through its artwork that the setting would be in the 1960s. Now, Feige has confirmed this detail. “It is a period film,” Feige said. He explained that another piece of art released showed Johnny Storm flying in the air, making the 4 symbols, with a cityscape in the corner. Observant fans noticed that the cityscape didn’t quite resemble the New York we know, nor the New York of the 1960s from our world.

Feige’s comments about the film being set in a different world and the 1960s suggest that it won’t be part of the current MCU, which features characters like Captain Marvel, Black Panther and the new Captain America, Sam Wilson.

The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn from ‘Stranger Things’ as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach from ‘The Bear’ as Ben Grimm (the Thing).
