Filmmakers Tease "Pretty Spooky" Sequel For ‘In a Violent Nature’

The latest horror flick, ‘In a Violent Nature’, may just be the beginning of a fresh slasher movie series. To steer clear of repeating the same plotlines from the initial film, potential sequels would venture into new settings for the protagonist, Johnny.

According to Variety, director Chris Nash and special effects lead Steven Kostanski discussed the prospects of ‘In a Violent Nature’ as a potential franchise. While there's no official sequel announcement yet, Nash hinted at ideas for a follow-up that would offer a fresh take. Kostanski playfully suggested the idea of Johnny wreaking havoc in suburban neighbourhoods or even venturing into outer space, although the latter was likely a tongue-in-cheek remark.

"I feel like there's definitely room for more Johnny adventures," Kostanski remarked. "I wouldn't mind seeing him end up in suburbia at some point. Just the feeling of walking around with this character in a back alley — somewhere while people are just living their lives — is pretty spooky. I would entertain that. And then by part four, maybe he goes to space. We'll see."

Nash added, "To my producers' chagrin, I'm always like, 'No, it takes place in the middle of nowhere, so we have to go into the middle of nowhere. We have to make our days so much longer than they need to be,'" referring to the remote wilderness location used in the first film.

‘In a Violent Nature’ was written and directed by Chris Nash, with Shannon Hanmer and Peter Kuplowsky serving as producers. The ensemble cast includes Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Sam Roulston, Alexander Oliver, Timothy Paul McCarthy, and ‘Friday the 13th Part 2’ star Lauren-Marie Taylor.

This movie brings a fresh twist to the slasher genre by showcasing the events from the killer's perspective, earning it the tag of an "ambient slasher." It tracks the journey of Johnny, a masked assailant, as he hunts down a group of teenagers in the wilderness, unleashing brutal and terrifying murders. With mostly positive reviews, the film boasts an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
