First Look at Jacob Elordi’s ‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North’

Production on the drama series ‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North,’ starring Jacob Elordi, has wrapped after five months of filming in Australia.

Based on the Booker Prize-winning novel by Richard Flanaghan, the five-part series tells a love story set against the backdrop of World War II. Elordi takes on the role of Lieutenant-Colonel Dorrigo Evans, alongside Odessa Young, with Ciaran Hinds portraying the older version of Evans.

Shaun Grant adapted the screenplay, and the series is produced by Curio Pictures, with Prime Video handling the release in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Sony Pictures Television will distribute the series in other territories.

Flanaghan’s novel, published in 2013, spans a century marked by war, with forced labour on the Thai-Burma Railway and a fleeting love affair at its core. The story unfolds through various periods, narrated by an Australian doctor who becomes a reluctant hero after being taken prisoner during World War II. The narrative follows his childhood, his time as a POW and his later life as a respected surgeon and war hero.

“‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North’ is a tale of love that endures even in the darkest times,” Prime Video said in a statement. “It’s an intimate exploration of the human spirit’s resilience in adversity and an examination of a marriage and an unforgettable love affair.”
