The smoke has barely cleared from the streets of Birmingham following the recent cinematic release of 'Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man,' but the Shelby saga is already charging into its next chapter. The "order of the Peaky Blinders" is far from over, as Netflix has formally dropped the first glimpse of its eagerly awaited sequel series. This new era shifts the timeline forward into the 1950s, ten years after the horrific events of World War II, when Birmingham is engulfed in a desperate and frequently violent rush to rebuild.

The role is now being passed to the next generation, even though Cillian Murphy's iconic portrayal of Tommy Shelby defined the first series and its enormous worldwide success. A plot of "mythical dimensions," according to creator Steven Knight, will center on the dangerous and ambitious characters that emerge from the wreckage of the conflict. With filming currently underway at the Digbeth Loc. Studios, the excitement is palpable as fans prepare to trade the industrial grime of the 1920s for the neon-tinged shadows of the mid-century underworld.

From Tommy's Shadow to Duke's Reign

Cillian Murphy's iconic portrayal of the icy, cunning, yet profoundly troubled Thomas Shelby made the first 'Peaky Blinders' series a global sensation. 'The Immortal Man,' which debuted on Netflix in March 2026 and gave the character a last, "explosive" send-off, marked the culmination of his path from a shell-shocked soldier to a strong Member of Parliament. But the movie also meticulously sowed the seeds for the future, especially through Duke Shelby.

While the character was previously portrayed by Conrad Khan in the series and Barry Keoghan in the feature film, the sequel series has cast Jamie Bell to take over the role. This Duke is said to be "older, wiser, and more ambitious," having spent years navigating the blood-soaked heart of the family business.

While Bell's face has been altered, the brutal spirit of the 'Peaky Blinders' is still very much present in the first-look photos, which show him fully embracing the Shelby aesthetic—sharp tailoring, a steely gaze, and that unmistakable air of quite menace.

The 1950s Underground: Cast and What to Expect

The sequel series, which takes place about ten years after the events of 'The Immortal Man,' examines a Birmingham that is both extremely dangerous and full with possibility. Duke Shelby must navigate a "brutal contest" to save his family's interests as the city undergoes extensive restoration. An outstanding ensemble cast, featuring Lashana Lynch, Jessica Brown Findlay, newcomer Lucy Karczewski, and 'Stranger Things' star Charlie Heaton in a major part, joins Jamie Bell in this high-stakes thriller. The presence of such strong hitters suggests a story that is both wide and highly character-driven, even though specifics about their characters are being kept under wraps.

Steven Knight remains the creative force behind the project, ensuring the series retains its signature blend of historical grit and stylized violence. Though a firm release date has yet to be announced, with production in full swing and a two-season order already confirmed by Netflix, fans can likely expect the Shelby family to return to their screens by late 2026 or early 2027.
