George Clooney Says Directing is “More Fun” Than Acting: “You Have a Lot More Control”
George Clooney revealed his preference for directing over acting in a new interview, promoting his latest project, ‘The Boys In The Boat.’
Taking the directorial reins for the film, which delves into the narrative of the University of Washington’s rowing squad, Clooney navigates the team’s journey from their humble beginnings in the Depression era to clinching gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics amid the backdrop of Hitler’s Nazi Germany. The star-studded cast includes Callum Turner, Joel Edgerton, and Peter Guinness.
Clooney shed light on the contrasting experiences of directing and acting, asserting, “It’s more fun; you have a lot more control. I get to boss them around, and I don’t have to learn how to row,” he quipped. Expanding on his directorial joys, he remarked, “Directing is a fun thing to do. It’s fun to come in in the morning, and it’s fun to write a screenplay and then have somebody build a set that you wrote, it really is.”
George Clooney reflected on the necessity of diversifying interests as one ages, stating, “As you get older, you need to have other things to do. You can’t just do one thing. I’m lucky because I get to do the stuff I love, and a lot of people don’t get that. I’m well aware of it, and I celebrate it because, you know, if I’m not having fun, I think people would be really pissed off. If they look at my life, you go, ‘If you’re not enjoying that, then, you know, then who knows.'”
Despite his inclination towards directing, George Clooney assured fans that he’s not bidding adieu to acting anytime soon. Discussing his forthcoming action-thriller ‘Wolves’ with Brad Pitt, he maintained, “I still like acting, I have fun. I just did a film with Brad Pitt; he’s an up-and-coming actor,” Clooney deadpanned, injecting his trademark wit into the conversation.
